Semesilam: The Eternal Sun (PROTOTYPE of the ARTISANAL Ed. / Blank Pages)
Semesilam: The Eternal Sun by José Gabriel Alegría Sabogal
(PROTOTYPE of the ARTISANAL Ed.)
Creating a hand-bound book prototype, or "dummy," is a labor-intensive and costly process due to the high-quality materials and specialized craftsmanship required. Each prototype is made from scratch, using premium papers, leathers, and threads, which are expensive when purchased in small quantities. The binding process involves hours of careful work—cutting, folding, sewing, and finishing—all done by hand, often taking several days to complete. Unlike mass-produced books, each prototype is a one-of-a-kind piece, which means the costs of materials, labor, and overhead must be covered in the price. These factors, along with the time and skill involved, make hand-bound prototypes more expensive but also highly valuable as unique, high-quality mock-ups.
