There are few guitarists as expressive and unorthodox working today as New York's own Kevin Hufnagel. Be it through his mesmerizing guitar work with his bands Dysrhythmia, Gorguts, staples of complex, angular heavy music, or his rich, vast, and wide ranging solo discography, Kevin Hufnagel is always conjuring some sort of magic with guitars.
Way back in 2018, Coup sur Coup released his album « Ashland », CSC-002, the label’s second ever release, and we began a working relationship that led us here today, as we are about to release not one, but 2 of his solo records.
Polar night II, his latest solo offering is a sequel to the acclaimed Polar Night I, released in 2012. All ambience and atmosphere, expressed at glacial pace, those « phases »as they are called, takes you on what feels like a trek to the North Pole late at night, with the stars and moon bright in the dark, frozen night sky, while
« The Protected Shards » feels more like walking in a city made of glass towers, and slowly watching it crack, break & crumble, knowing that you probably played a part in it failing apart. Filled with glitchy guitars and Belew-esque sounds, it’s the perfect companion to the more dense & stormy Polar Night II.
Both albums are getting their first physical releases, conveniently released here on one cassette, one album per side. This is sure to sold out, and will be limited to only 50 hand numbered copies.
